Creative Arts @ Valley View Secondary School
In the Curriculum
In Creative Arts students have the opportunities to specialise in study within and across the arts disciplines of dance, drama, music and the visual arts: art and design.
Students participate in the processes of development and presentation of finished or realised creative arts products.
Creative arts products may take the form of musicals, plays or concerts, visual artefacts, digital media, film and video, public arts projects, community performances, presentations and installations, and in vocal groups or other ensembles.

The Process
Designed as a four week unit, yr 10 students were selected and also volunteered to participate in the two self-contained Creative Arts projects explained below:
1) KWN
Student-produced news program on the topic of 'Learning' which wad submitted into a national competition.
2) Mural Project
The mural (painted on 4 large concrete sheets) will be hung up as a series of work on a section of wall somewhere outdoors on the school grounds.
Students volunteered to spend up to 7 lessons a week working on a mural to display around the outside of the school. This work will be on display to show students/visitors/parents the work that we're doing. Part of the unit also included a news program. We decided to talk to people and ask them questions in front of the video camera. (Evan Glikos, yr 10)
The Mural- Students Reflect
Nicki Saunderson -Year 10 ~ This Mural Project was great. I was asked to participate in this project and I loved it. I was involved in the textas and ipod image. The only thing I disliked was re-making the pink colour background because it was hard to mix the same colour again. I love art and I can't wait until the mural goes up!
Oscar Marrone - Year 10 ~ I liked working with my friends on this art project and I also injoyed working on the videos and the animation, I was the editor of the news program/ movie making project and I also helped with the art project. I'm looking forward to mounting the mural!
Shane Gabarretta -Year 10 ~ Doing the mural project was good fun and got us out of regular lessons. It was an exciting new thing to do. I was involved in the mobile phone image. The teacher gave me the idea of the phones and we found and printed off an image of the stacked phones from the internet that we adapted to for our final image. It was good doing team work with most people.
The Journey in a Short Film

Selected Locations for the Mural
Following the four week unit, three of the students worked with Miss Jessica Bok to photograph potential locations for the mural, then using PhotoShop, created the photographic projections seen below:
